The 3 Best Tasting Protein Bars On The Market

The protein bar market has come a long way in recent years. Gone are the days of tough, chewy protein bars that taste of cardboard and there is now a good range of bars on the market that add nutritional value as well as great taste!

Companies are investing heavily in research and development to understand what we like, and how to make a protein bar with the taste and texture of your traditional chocolate bars.

That being said, it can be hard to find the right bar for you as we all have a different preference and too much choice can confuse buyers and make your buying decision riskier, protein bars don’t come cheap!

Here are our top 3 best tasting protein bars:

1. Optimum Nutrition Whipped Bites

  • 20g High Protein
  • High Fibre
  • No added sugar – contains naturally occurring sugars
  • 2 Cake Bars
  • Box of 12 Bars

Still our favourite protein bar after first tasting the bars nearly a year ago! Optimum Nutrition Whipped Bites have also just won ‘Best Protein Bar’ in ‘The Mens Health Sports Nutrition Awards 2019’.

Protein bars aren’t created equally, and Whipped Bites come in 2 soft, light Milky-Way taste and texture that will leave you wondering how on earth they are a protein bar! The bar still has 20g of protein with no added sugars so you can enjoy this bar as a post workout snack or between meals to tie you over.

Optimum Nutrition are one of the biggest protein brands in the industry, owned and manufactured by Nutrition company Glanbia, they have a strong, innovative R & D team behind them to make sure their products taste great, and provide you with the nutritional value you need! We recommend you keep it simple and go for chocolate!

2. PHD Diet Whey Protein Bar

  • 20g Protein
  • 1.8g Sugar
  • 199 Calories
  • 5.0g Fat
  • 20g Carbohydrates
  • 9.8g Fibre
  • L-Carcitine
  • 65g Bar

This was the first time we had tasted a protein bar from PhD, and the Diet Whey bar did not disappoint at all! We tested the impressive tasting salted caramel flavour, which is wrapped in a chocolate outer layer, with salted caramel dough, caramel running through the middle and also has protein crispies inside.

The PhD Diet Whey protein bar comes very close to tasting and feeling like a traditional chocolate bar. It’s rare to have caramel in a protein bar, and this gives it a guey, chewey texture but importantly still keeps it light.

The bar has 20g of protein and just 200 calories, which helps it live up to its ‘Diet Whey’ name. Our full product review is available here.

3. Grenade Carb Killa Protein Bar

  • 22.4g Protein
  • 215 Calories
  • 8.1g Fat
  • Low sugar
  • Post workout snack or anytime in the day

The 3rd best tasting protein bar goes to the Grenade Carb Killa protein bar. We were really impressed as this was the first Grenade product we’ve tasted, but it certainly will not be the last!

The Grenade Carb Killa Protein Bar is another light bar, triple layered and coated in chocolate. It has a similar texture to many chocolate bars, and is packed with 22.4g of protein but still manages to have a nice soft texture. We went for the white chocolate flavour which was amazing but the Grenade Carb Killa comes in a range of flavours, so there really is something for you no matter what your preference!

If you haven’t heard of Grenade, their story is both inspiring and unique. They exploded onto the scene in 2009 with a mission to provide a range of great tasting sports nutrition products with high quality ingredients. They are one of the UK’s fastest growing companies and have now become a worldwide brand! Read their story here
